Physical game is a welcome site but violence is another thing.

As I rest in my bed this late afternoon.. I've watched a collegiate basketball game between the Letran Knights and the San Sebastian Stags. The PCCL (Philippine Collegiate Champioship League) is near the tournament's conclusion as the games today we're the last prior the final four wars which will be staged this coming Saturday. Letran is the only team that beat the San Sebastian at the elimination of this year's NCAA so I was excited to watch the ball game knowing this would be a tightly contested match.

The San Sebastian Golden Stags are the NCAA defending champions. On the other hand, the Letran Knights are champions in their own minds as they hold a victory over the league champions. The knights are known to be a physical team. Hence no one is going to give it up without a hell of a fight, with this kind of context, it spells no less than a war.

Jam Cortez, Letran's PF -- If you're really a good basketball player, why can't you hit the ring instead?

Physical game is a welcome site but violence is another thing. Letran Knights were down by a big margin the whole game as the San Sebastian Stags showed a fantastic basketball performance from start towards the end, however their opponents were giving out unnecessary actions like throwing elbows and other dirty tricks that promotes violence but it was neglected by the stags as they kept their composure and focus even though they took lots of love in the competition, indeed a classy act. The game unfolded with 5 unsportsman-like fouls for the honorable knights.

The Letran Knights is a notorious team for being more than "physical" or should I say way beyond the description? It's true that basketball is a contact sport but actions which are for combat sports per se are clearly not allowed. Letran Knights-basketball is projecting an unhealthy method of competition. Hurting a player will not earn a point neither respect. Playing dirty is not going make a basketball player better, so it has no room for basketball at all, otherwise just go hit a sport where it belongs. ((:
